JEE Main 2024 Exam Pattern, Dates and Other Key Details

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2024 will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in January and April 2024 for admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture programs in India. The exam comprises three papers - Paper 1 for B.E/B.Tech, Paper 2A for B.Arch, and Paper 2B for B.Planning.

Exam Dates

Paper 2A (B.Arch) and 2B (B.Planning) will be held on January 24, 2024. Paper 1 (B.E/B.Tech) will be conducted from January 27 to February 1, 2024 in two shifts per day. The second session of Paper 1 is scheduled from April 1 to 15, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

To appear for JEE Main 2024, candidates need to fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • For general category - 75% aggregate marks in 12th board exams
  • For SC/ST category - 65% aggregate marks in 12th board exams
  • Should have studied specific subjects in 12th depending on the paper appearing for

Candidates who qualify JEE Main are eligible to apply for JEE Advanced for admission to IITs.

Exam Pattern

JEE Main comprises three papers with separate exam patterns:

Paper 1 (B.E/B.Tech)

This paper has a total of 90 multiple choice questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with equal weightage to all three subjects. Each subject has 30 questions and 100 marks. The paper is conducted in CBT mode.

  • Drawing Test (100 marks) - Offline pen and paper based test

Paper 2B (B.Planning)

This paper has a total of 400 marks comprising:

  • Mathematics (100 marks) - Objective type questions
  • Aptitude Test (200 marks) - Objective type questions
  • Planning Based Questions (100 marks) - Objective type questions

The marking scheme is same as Paper 1 - +4 marks for correct answer and -1 mark for incorrect answer.

Admit Card

Admit cards have been released and are available for download on the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in. To download, candidates need to enter their application number and date of birth.

Admit cards mention details like reporting time, exam center address, day and date of exam, instructions for exam day etc.

Exam Day Instructions

Candidates should follow these guidelines on the day of the exam:

  • Reach exam center at the reporting time mentioned on admit card
  • Carry print out of admit card and valid photo ID proof
  • Follow dress code - wear slippers/sandals, avoid large ornaments
  • Avoid carrying prohibited items like stationery, gadgets etc.
  • Maintain discipline and follow instructions of invigilators

Result and Cutoff

JEE Main results will be declared online on the official website. Separate cutoffs will be announced for each paper and category. Candidates meeting the cutoff will be eligible for counselling process.

Based on the scores, ranking will be issued which will be used for admissions.

Counselling Process

Qualified candidates can participate in JoSAA counselling for admission to NITs, IIITs and CFITs. Seats are allotted through rounds of choice filling.

For B.Arch, qualified candidates need to register on the website - www.cca.nic.in for participating in counselling process.

Counselling schedule, process and allotment details will be announced along with the result.
